MetaMask is the most popular and recommended cryptocurrency wallet. It is used to safely and easily interact with the Ethereum blockchain through a browser extension or iOS/Android app. In the tutorial below, I will show you how to create your own MetaMask wallet.
Go to MetaMask’s official website (https://metamask.io) and download a browser extension or iOS/Android app.
Note: Make sure that you are on the official website, for example by checking the URL address and comparing it with the one from MetaMask’s Twitter account.
After installation, you should automatically see a welcome screen. Click “Get started” button there.
Assuming that you don’t have MetaMask wallet yet, click “Create a wallet” button on the next screen. If you already have a wallet, you can import it, by clicking “Import wallet” button and using your secret recovery phrases.
On the next screen, enter a strong password, which will be used to unlock MetaMask application (an app will be automatically locked after inactivity or logout from the operating system), and click “Create” button.
MetaMask will show you secret recovery phrases required to restore your account if you lose it, change your device or remove and restore an app. When you do this, click “Next” button.
Note: It is very important to save these phrases in a safe place and keep them hidden from others. If you lose them you can lose funds accumulated in the wallet. I recommend saving them in the password manager secured by a strong master password. I personally use 1password (https://1password.com).
We are almost done. In the last step, you must confirm that you saved or remembered secret recovery phrases. Select appropriate words in the proper order and click “Confirm”.
Success! You just created your MetaMask wallet. You can use it for transactions in the Ethereum network. Now, you can access your wallet by clicking on the MetaMask icon at the top-right-end corner of your browser.
